Nestled in the heart of the Austrian Alps, Innsbruck is a stunning blend of imperial history, modern adventure, and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you’re a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or a foodie, Innsbruck has something for you. I had the pleasure of visiting here in the wintertime, however I am sure it would be beautiful year-round. Here are my Top 10 Things to Do in Innsbruck:

1. Visit the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl)
One of Innsbruck’s most iconic landmarks, this ornate balcony with 2,657 gilded copper tiles was built in the 15th century by Emperor Maximilian I. It’s a perfect spot for photos and learning about the city’s imperial past.

2. Ride the Nordkette Cable Car
For stunning panoramic views of the Alps, take the Nordkette Cable Car from the city center up to Hafelekar (2,334m). The journey includes stops at Hungerburg and Seegrube, offering hiking trails in summer and skiing in winter.

3. Explore Ambras Castle (Schloss Ambras)
A fairytale castle with beautiful Renaissance architecture, art collections, and gorgeous gardens. The Spanish Hall I found unique, with its interior being a masterpiece of woodwork.

4. Walk Through the Old Town (Altstadt)
Wander through Innsbruck’s medieval streets lined with pastel-coloured buildings, boutique shops, and charming cafés. Don’t miss St. Anne’s Column and the City Tower (Stadtturm) for a great city view.

5. Visit The Court Church (Hofkirche)
Foe me this was one of Innsbruck’s most impressive historical landmarks, home to the elaborate tomb of Emperor Maximilian I, surrounded by 28 striking bronze statues of knights and ancestors known as the ‘Black Men’ (Schwarze Mander), truly unique and a must-visit for history lovers.”

6. Take a Day Trip to Swarovski Crystal Worlds
Located in Wattens (about 20 minutes from Innsbruck), this magical crystal-themed museum features sparkling art installations, an enchanted garden, and the iconic giant’s head waterfall. I had never been a Swarovski enthusiast, but this museum I cannot recommend enough the museum is a true sensory experience and some of the displays are truly breathtaking.

7. Explore the Imperial Palace (Hofburg)
Step back into history at the former Habsburg residence, where you can tour lavish rooms, learn about Empress Maria Theresa, and admire the beautiful ceiling frescoes in this grand library.

8. Try Traditional Tyrolean Food
Enjoy authentic Austrian dishes like Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Tiroler Gröstl (fried potatoes with bacon & egg), and Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) at traditional restaurants like Stiftskeller.

9. Walk Along the Inn River & Take Photos of the Colourful Houses
The famous colourful row of houses along the Inn River with the Alps in the background is one of Innsbruck’s most photogenic spots—a must for Instagram! And as an extra recommendation from myself, visit day and night.

10. Wilten Basilica
I found this to be a stunning example of Rococo architecture, with its ornate gold and pastel interior, intricate ceiling frescoes, and a peaceful atmosphere, it is for sure, one of the most breathtaking churches in Innsbruck
